gOoDbYe 2010

Thank you 2010!

JANUARY - first time to watch Lea Salonga concert

FEBRUARY - I celebrated my birthday in Bohol. It was fun as I celebrated it with my CAD officemates and friends from Tagbilaran.
MARCH - AskAll team summer outing
MAY - I visited SG again, twas fun especially with my 2 sisters around.
JULY - my first Universal Studios SG experience.
AUGUST - revisited SG again but it was not such a good idea.
OCTOBER - revisited Camiguin, it was memorable.
NOVEMBER - together again with Jeanne

I wasn't able to visit a new place this year but I'm still glad I that I was able to revisit some places. I want to go to Bali next year with Chanty but it's quite impossible now with our family project. So maybe I'll just hope to visit a new town? Anda or Alicia perhaps? heheheeh

Tomorrow will be the last day of 2010 and we're planning to spend New Year’s Eve at Bohol Beach Club. We'll be joining their Blast Off Party/Dinner. There will be a live band to lead the final countdown in welcoming 2011 and fireworks display. I strongly suggested this to avoid washing the dishes. Nyahahaha.

The malls will definitely be full tomorrow with last-minute shoppers. Even the medical uniform stores will also be filled with customers who'll take advantage of the year end sale. It will be a perfect time to shop for nursing uniforms or nurse scrub tops. But if you can, just avoid the malls tomorrow to save you the stress from standing in long lines and heavy traffic.

If there's Bicol express, there's also Bohol express. I first tasted it when we hang out at Asiatika. It tastes really good, and I think it's easy to prepare. I couldn't find the recipe so I will try to experiment one of these days. It tastes like Béchamel sauce, but really thick, mixed with carrots in small cubes, then peeled shrimp and then lots of chilli.

I've been eating this since yesterday. I never thought Goldilocks' polvoron tastes this good, especially the cookies in cream.

sTrAiGhT nO cHaSeR - 12 DaYs Of ChRiStMaS

This is really cool.

ShOpPiNg aNd PaYdAy LoAnS

18 days before Christmas and everyone’s starting to get busy. Long lines in the department store, long lines in ATMs, restaurant being full, and traffic everywhere are signs that some already got their 13th month pay and other bonuses. Well, lucky for them, not everyone’s getting a bonus, and that includes me. It's already the season for shopping and I haven't done it yet, I'm planning to do it this weekend. It’s in my TO DO list, including wrapping gifts. For me, wrapping is just as exciting as tearing the wrapper of a gift, so I always prefer it than just putting gifts in a paper bag.

Not everyone though, have these bonuses. Some may resort to applying for payday loans. Getting payday loans is now convenient. Most institutions offer online application and some don't even need a credit check. You don't really need to have a good credit standing, which is one of the major problems when getting other types of loans. You don't need to wait for weeks to get your loan; you can get cash as early as an hour.

But still, we all have to be responsible when it comes to financial matters. Payday loans maybe so easy but make sure that you’re getting it for the right reason. It’s also important that you understand the terms before getting one.

Anyway, whether they got a loan or a bonus, people are so going to shop, shop, and shop ‘til they drop. So it’s better to have a list of stuff you want to buy before you go to the malls this weekend. Shopping is fun but it’s going to be exhausting during busy season. Or better yet, do your shopping during weekdays, and beware of pickpockets and ON SALE signs, they definitely going to drain your cash.

I dreamt about snakes again last night. This time it bit me. There were 2 fast-moving black snakes, I was only watching them but my companion tried to hurt them and it bit me.
Last week, it was just one big snake, I was really scared but it didn't bit me.
Does it really have a meaning?

It was my second time to visit Camiguin island and I got to explore the island better. It really is a place for relaxation, not party. We went there during Lanzones festival, but we opted not to go out and join the crowd. For me, the parade was not that big a deal compared to Sinulog or even Sandugo, so you really won’t be missing a lot if you don’t watch the parade.

We stayed at Camiguin Island Beach and Country Club, thanks to Jack for the big discount.

Here’s our itinerary:On our first day, Friday, we took Paras Seacat fast craft, which departed at 1:30pm from Jagna, Bohol. Travel time is approximately 2.5 hours to Benoni port in Camiguin (one way costs 400php).  The resort is a bit far from the center of Mambajao, so we asked somebody from the resort to drive us there for dinner. That was actually our main problem while staying there, can’t find good restaurants in the center of Mambajao.

The next day, we decided to rent a motorbike, our best option. It was for 500/day. We rented it for 2 days. From our location in Anito, Mambajao, the nearest spot is Katibawasan falls, so we went there first. Entrance fee is 20php/head.  It’s approximately 3 km from highway.

We then proceeded to Ardent hot spring, 3-4km from highway. The entrance fee is 30php/head.  We stayed there for several hours since the water is really relaxing. We had lunch at their restaurant.

Next stop is sunken cemetery. If you want to go to the big cross, they have boat for rent, 100php per boat (max of 10 pax).  But since we were only 2, they only charged us 50php.

After that, we proceeded to the Sto Nino cold spring. Entrance fee is 20php/head. It was really cold, and still relaxing after the long drive. It was really hot that day. We left the spring at 6pm and drove straight from Catarman to Sagay so we can really drive around the island.

Another long drive til we arrived at J&A Fishpen for our dinner. I’d say it was the best meal in our whole stay in Camiguin. After our dinner, we went straight to the resort.

The next day, we woke up at 5:30am. We first went to the center of Mambajao to buy some food and drinks for our baon for White Island. Then we went straight to Yumbing area. You will see several signs there that would direct you to places where you can rent boat to White Island. We were able to rent the boat for 400 pesos. We only stayed at White Island until 9am, since it was already very hot.

We then decided to go back to Ardent hot spring, stayed for 2 hours then transferred to Soda swimming pool. Entrance fee is 20 pesos and we rented a cottage for 50 pesos since we had our lunch there.  Then we went back to the resort and spent the rest of the afternoon at the resort’s swimming pool.

We went home the next day, Monday, and of course, bought their Pastel and few kilos of Lanzones. It’s really cheap during the festival. In Mambajao, you can find 20/kilo. I thought I could find that price in the port area, but the cheapest there is already 35/kilo.

Chi Chi Chi, le le le!

is the chant from the rescuers, family  members, gov’t officials and other people in the mining site, who witnessed the rescue operation of the 33 miners who were trapped approximately 700 meters below the ground, for 69 days.

As I watched the CNN coverage earlier, I couldn’t help but get emotional as each miner comes out from the capsule, full of emotion as they hug their loved ones, and praised God. It was indeed an amazing story of survival.

After 22 hours, they declared Mision cumplida!

 ***** Happy 70th birthday John Lennon *****

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

John Lennon will be celebrating his would have been 70th birthday come Oct 9, 2010. It's interesting to know that Yoko Ono had a tower constructed in Iceland, dedicated to JL.The construction started 09/09/06 and inaugurated exactly a year after.

Yoko planned to have this tower lighted every year from Oct 9 to Dec 8, the anniversary of his death. For John Lennon fans out there, here's Yoko's letter:

Dear Friends,
This Saturday, October 9th, I will relight IMAGINE PEACE TOWER in Iceland in memory of my late husband John Lennon.
Please ask all your friends to join us by Tweeting your wishes to IMAGINE PEACE TOWER.
You can do this by coming to where you can also watch the lighting live with us at 8pm in Reykjavík = 9pm in UK = 3pm in NY= midday in LA = 5am in Japan.
Tell all your friends.
Spread the word.
Let’s Tweet a million wishes for Peace for John’s birthday!

since I work at home. Yes, my job is home based and of course I don't need to wear a uniform. I just wear my most comfortable pair of shorts and a shirt, and still proud to be sporting it. The closest thing to a uniform is my apron - of course, I cook and wash dishes at home. I’m no señorita.

Having no need of getting a uniform helps me save a lot of money since I don't need to buy any additional clothing. I don't need to have scrub tops or scrub pants like the nurse or get myself long sleeves or vests like those working in big corporate environment.

nOt rEd VeLvEt cUpcAkE

I still had some ingredients left so I searched for a simple cupcake recipe earlier and found this Red Velvet Cupcake Recipe. I didn’t exactly follow the list below since I didn’t have red food coloring. I’m currently in our home town so the availability of some ingredients is quite limited, and US Coupons would have been useless here.

Here’s the recipe that I used. It’s easy, simple and delicious. I only used half of this recipe and produced a dozen cupcakes.

• 2 1/2  cups all purpose flour
• 2 cups sugar
• 1/2 cup baking cocoa powder
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 cup butter room temperature
• 5 large eggs
• 1 cup buttermilk (see note at bottom)
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 teaspoon red food coloring

1.    Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl.  Sift dry ingredients.
2.    Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add eggs one at a time, making sure to beat well after each addition.
3.    Add 1/3 of dry ingredients to creamed mixture then approximately 1/3 of buttermilk alternating until mixed well.  Add vanilla and food coloring.
4.    Fill lined cupcake pans 1/2 full of batter.  Bake in a preheated 175 degree Celsius oven for approximately 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5.    Cool cupcakes in pans for 5 to 10 minutes then remove from pans. Frost.
NOTE:  If you don't happen to have buttermilk on hand you can try this simple substitution.  Place one tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar in an empty one cup measuring cup.  Fill with milk to 1 cup.  Let stand for 5 minutes then use in any cake recipe that calls for buttermilk.

To celebrate Chy's birthday last 9/11, I baked a chocolate cake. It was so basic coz I did not include any  frosting or filling. It was still yummy though since I used Hersheys cocoa.

A pLaN

I am excited when I finally decided that I will be taking up a course in Baking and Pastries. Actually, I will start next year. That will give me enough time to save up. At first I wanted the cooking courses but I think it’s more expensive and I am more interested in the whole process of baking than cutting up onions.

My school choices for now:
1.    University of Southern Philippines
2.    Cebu Mary Immaculate College
3.    MOST Institute
4.    Academy for International Culinary Arts
(I believe that’s arranged form least to most expensive)

Well, that’s the plan for now.

cAuGhT iN tHe sUn

I fell in love with this song, and it's definitely in my playlist.

You're my distance, destination of choice
I'd give anything just to hear your voice
I could've passed you on the street
Without saying a word
Most times I miss the voice
That goes unheard

What if I missed you
You got caught in the sun
What if I did something
Never to be undone

People everywhere how could I be sure
If it's you that I have been looking for
What would it take for me to be comfortable
With you, with me you're the chosen one

What if I missed you
You got caught in the sun
What if I did something
Never to be undone

You are there for me this I hope and pray
You will wait for me, I won't be too late

What if I missed you
You got caught in the sun
What if I did something
Never to be undone

Will you wait for me
Or will I be too late this time
You are there for me this I hope and pray

1. Standby battery life is approximately 3 days ONLY
2. If I include the country code in saving a number, then I get a call from that number (local call), it doesn't recognize the caller, so the screen shows a bunch of numbers. instead of the name
3. There's no "edit before call" feature
4. When I turn off my phone, the alarm clock setting is reset

and counting .....

to summarize, it's NOT Sony Ericsson.

You know some kids ask us what happiness really is.
Well, to me happiness is a hamburger, going to the movies, new clothes.
Well, what’s your happiness, gerard?

My happiness is a hotdog sandwich, new rubber shoes, new t-shirts,
New jeans and also my favorite part of happiness is love.

Happiness is two kinds of ice cream
Finding your skate key, telling the time
Happiness is learning to whistle
Tying your shoe for the very first time
Happiness is playing the drum in your own school band
And happiness is walking hand in hand

Happiness is five different crayons
Knowing a secret, climbing a tree
Happiness is finding a nickel
Catching a firefly, setting him free
Happiness is being alone every now and then
And happiness is coming home again

Happiness is morning and evening

Daytime and nighttime, too

For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That’s loved by you

Happiness is having a sister

Sharing a sandwich

Getting along
Happiness is singing together when day is through
And happiness is those who sing with you

Happiness is morning and evening
Daytime and nighttime, too
For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That’s loved by you

I am a GleeK. I never thought I'd fall in love with the series when I watched the first few episodes. But now, I couldn't get enough of their songs. And I am very excited with Season 2 now that Charice is confirmed as a cast. I hope they would feature Miss Saigon songs and more of Beatles'.

Season 1 showcased a lot of great performance and this is one of my favorites, very touching.

Rainy season is here and the rainfall in SG for the past few days is usually more than the average. As I read the newspaper today, I found out that the rain yesterday caused flood in several areas here in SG and caused several trees to fall. Since there’s no perfect weather, I also had to endure a very slow internet connection. So I had limited facebook time last night and still did not finish the pending bug I’ve been testing for days.

Anyway, it’s funny how you get a lot of info from FB nowadays. Status updates here and there, and if you connect these, then you get yourself a latest gossip. Nevertheless, FB gives a lot of important updates – like Iren is expected to deliver her baby girl next week and I also found out that a friend of mine from Bohol owns Northway Tyre Center. If you’re having problems with wheel alignment and balancing, visit their shop located along CPG Ave, Tagbilaran City. Of course, don’t expect them to have check engine light available, it’s not a Chicago auto repair. You can also call 416-5240, 235-7191 for further inquiries. So go ahead, bring your car for a stress free auto repair, and check out other services.

I was so thrilled when Flora sent me the message that she's getting married this June. She wanted me to be one of her bridesmaids but it's so sad that I couldn't be there. The 3 of us (Chanty and Jeanne), couldn't be there.
Its another genius pair in our DM5 batch. I'm so happy for Flora and Noel.

May you have a happy pink June wedding. :)

FiEsTa MoNtH iS HeRe

MAY is a super busy month for me. It started with our first high school grand reunion, which was a success.  Then we will have the national election on Monday, and then, town fiestas here and there. I will miss our town fiesta though since I’m going back to SG.  If it’s fiesta, it really grand in our province and it usually means something‘s new at home. Like last year, we purchased a sala set, though it’s not as nice as the sofa beds san diego. It was a basic set.  We also had new beds, which could have been perfect if I had the simmons san diego mattresses.

That was last year. For this year, we have an ongoing renovation of our kitchen, and dining furniture san diego  would be just right. Well, Mama still has bigger renovation plans for our kitchen but it maybe for next year. It's really nice to see these changes at home. It makes me wanna stay at home all the time and not go back to Cebu.

Anyway, since I won’t be around for the feast, I just prepared my bed and my new sheet for the visitors who will sleepover. Oh, I will miss my bed.

ToGeThEr FoReVeR

Congratulations Jerald and Iren.  You guys can now finally relax, the celebration was really successful.

The priest was really fun. He had a 45 minute long homily but it was not boring. He started it by singing “Kung ikaw inday mangitag pamanhonon, siguroa baya ang Bol-anon”, a fitting song for them.
There were noteworthy stuff the priest said during his homily which I couldn’t forget:
-That there are three elements of living together and these are
•    Thank you
•    I’m sorry
•    I forgive you
-That the principal sponsors play a big role in the first few years of the lives of the couple coz they are still “babies” in marriage.  So if their marriage goes wrong, the sponsors are to be blamed partly.
-That a civil wedding is a union of two individuals in the eyes of men but a church wedding is union of two individuals in eyes of God. So if you decide to marry in church, you are asking Him to be part and to be the center of your marriage.

The dinner reception was nothing grandiose but I’m glad I was able to help by being the emcee. I know they didn’t have any other choice. Hehhehe. Anyway, the most touching part was the father-bride/mother-groom dance, accompanied by “Daddy’s Angel” song. Their parents couldn’t stop crying that Iren signaled me not to finish the song and just move on with the program.

After the dinner reception, we went back to Barufols resort and spend the rest of the night with DKLAN.

from "RICE" to "rice"

This is a good start for me. I've managed to reduce my rice consumption by half. I actually wanted to totally get rid of rice, but that's torture. It's so good to be home and have better control in what I'm eating - no fastfood, no beer, and no cheesecakes. So long as I have meat and vegetables, then I'm good. I've been eating leaves since I got here. This morning, I had bacon wrapped in fresh letttuce and dipped in my homemade sauce. Yummy and healthy!

askALL 1.1 SuMmEr OuTinG

It was askALL's first time to have an out-of-town gathering, and sadly, we we're not complete.

Saturday morning, we took the 6am trip of Oceanjet. I don't like Ojet much but it's the most affordable choice for fastcraft. They still offer 320php roundtrip fare so long as you purchase at least two weeks before the travel date.

From Tagbilaran, we travelled to E.A.T Danao for approximately 2 hours. We only tried the Suislide since most of the activites were fully booked by ABSCBN. Anyway, the 40-second ride was fun. It was scary for the first 10 seconds but when you look at the view, it's really amazing.

Next stop was at Sagbayan peak. Most of them already visited the place, so we only stayed there for few minutes for our pictorials.

Then we went to my aunt's place in Sagbayan to have our snack....

We then proceeded to Bilar, and rested at Logarita spring then went home for dinner. Thanks to my mom who prepared a yummy dinner.

The next day, our first stop was at the manmade forest, then we proceeded to El Sumampong farm for the horseback riding.

We spent the rest of the day at Dumaluan public beach then went back to Mellow apartelle and continued the fun in their pool.
We went back to Cebu the next day and took the 9:30 am of Oceanjet.

Here's my prediction for the AI elimination:

12. Tim Urban
Why? For some reason, I just hate seeing him perform on stage. And he's not a good performer. Plus, he should have been eliminated instead of Alex Lambert.

11. Paige Miles
Why? She's got the voice but she doesn't have the looks or the charm to be there.

10. Aaron Kelly
Why? He's a good singer but doesn't really have the star quality.

9.  Katie Stevens
Why? She'll stay this long since I think she has fans and she's really charming. But, I hate her. She should have been the one eliminated instead of Lilly Scott.

8. Andrew Garcia
Why? He'll be eliminated this early since I don't really see him as a flexible performer, but he has good voice.

7. Lacey Brown
Why? I love her style but she would not become a mainstream artist.

6. Michael Lynche
Why? A lot of people would vote for him. I think people would always remember the story of his wife who delivered their first child during Hollywood week.

5. Didi Benami
Why? She's pretty, and sexy and I love her voice.

4.  Lee Dewyze
Why? He'll have more good feedback from the judges, and eventually, a lot of people would notice him.

3. Casey James
Why? Girls would really vote for him. So long as he's singing alternative songs, he's safe.

2. Crystal Bowersox
Why? I actually want her to be on top but I think Siobhan has more fans.

1. Siobhan Magnus
Why? Based on her performance, she's really great and I'm a fan. :)

Summer is already here and it's not so fun to be in the sun nowadays. But I still wanna go to Boracay, despite the fact that the sun's heat is unbearable from 11am-2pm.  I'm hoping I could go there this year. If not this summer, maybe sometime in June or July. I would really love to go there, relax and enjoy the beach. Just waiting for Cebu Pacific's seat sale.

Had a cheezy Valentine's day.

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

My dream of becoming a chef was reawakened when I watched No Reservations last weekend.  I know I couldn’t afford that for now but I sense that there’s  a lot of changes that’s going to happen this year, and who knows, one of them could lead to my dream.  Well, living starts with dreaming, so I’ll keep on dreaming, hoping and wishing and praying.

It's a heartbreaking song, so emotional.
I don't even know if he still thinks of me
Once he got onboard that unforgiving train
I imagine that he whiled away the time
Through the cold gray morning and the city rain

Thinking of somebody else who'll run to him
Who'll ask him did you miss me, maybe now and then
Laughing he'll say well he met this funny girl
But just a summer think he won't see her again

Oh God I hope I'm wrong
But I'm not feeling very strong
I've been so up and down so sad
So happy, feeling good and bad
I'm young I'm old I laugh I cry

I tell the truth but that's a lie
I've been so in and out so wild
So well behaved so pure defiled oh solitudine
That word I hate to say

And no I was not crazy to do what we did
I even wish I'd been a bit more crazy still
And kept a little more of him to see me through
He loved me all he could I never had my fill

And then I'm back inside my room he knows so well
I feel again the way he moved I take it slow
I talk to him and he becomes a part of me
And then I know he'll never let the summer go

Oh God I hope I'm right
I won't give in without a fight
And I can take the words they throw
At me for none of them could know

That we had something very few
Will ever find their whole life through
I wouldn't change a single day
Although the price I have to pay is solitudine

The loneliness is tearing me apart
It tears me up it pull me down and then
It wraps around my heart oh solitudine
Does he remember all he said to me
I've been so up and down so sad
So happy feeling good and bad

I'm young I'm old I laugh I cry
I tell the truth but that's a lie
I've been so in and out so wild
So well behaved so pure defiled oh solitudine

Does he remember all he said to me
And I can take the words they throw
At me for none of them could know

That we had something very few
Will ever find their whole life through
I wouldn't change single day

(And here’s another late post)
I got my Starbucks 2010 planner last, last week. The color and design is simple and I like it better than 2009 but it didn’t beat 2008. If you try to take a quick look at my planner, you’ll be seeing a lot of numbers. These are actually bug numbers. :D
Well, I hope I could continue this Sbucks tradition for the years to come. Bring it on, caffeine!

Watching LEA SALONGA perform live is dream come true. It actually happened last Jan 10, 2010 at Waterfront Cebu and we're lucky to get front row tickets for 3500 pesos. She's simply amazing; from beginning 'til the end. Her best was when she sang the songs from Broadway musical play like On My Own. Oh, I wish I could watch her again.
