BOPHA is a flower's name and also the name of the tropical cyclone in the West Pacific. As of today, it has intensified into a typhoon and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this Monday.
It will be named PABLO and it is also expected to make landfall in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. December of last year, Mindanao experienced a disastrous storm, SENDONG. Let's just pray that Pablo won't be the same so we could all have a happy Christmas.

This happened twice already and if it happens the 3rd time, I would really freak out. Last Thursday and Sunday night, while watching movies from my laptop in the dining area, a bat flew in and dropped a “tambis” fruit near my spot. It was really weird since it happened twice. I’m just forcing myself to be brave right now since I really need to stay here while waiting for a training in Manila. So now, I’m avoiding the dining area at night & just lock myself in the room coz I don’t want to see that bat again. But well, if you are batman, then show me your batmobile first!!

More fun in HongKong

Enjoyed Hong Kong the second time, especially with the free plane tickets, food and accommodation.. Thank you sponsors. :D

Going home

Had a very exhausting trip today, but I should get used to it. It is a cheaper and faster way to go home. From the office, I went to the port in Lapulapu going to Pier 3. From Pier 3, I took a cab going to Pier 1, good thing I didn’t have to wait long, I was just on time for Starcraft’s 2pm schedule, but the economy  seats (200php) were already booked so I had to pay for their “business class” (280php). It was just an hour trip to Tubigon and from there; I waited for van going to Carmen. It’s another 1 hour trip. From Carmen, I took another bus going to Bilar. It was very tiring but what matters is I know I’m going HOME.

Day 1

Today is my official 1st day of work at PAGASA. I thought I won’t be able to start today coz I almost got sick. My body was so stressed from travelling by air, sea and land in one day, and I was busy looking for a  room4rent in Cebu and didn’t have enough rest. Plus, the thing that made it worse was, the cab that I took hit the car in front of us and had a bad headache coz my head hit the front seat’s head support.  Things would have been worse if I was seated in front.  Then yesterday, was another land and sea travel.  Whew!  but I managed to get up early today and had a good kind of busy start.

BERry Good

BER months are here and September has been good to me so far. Good news is, I'll be assigned in Cebu, yeay! I'll be back to the city. Bad news is that, I might not be able to join our family trip to Hong Kong.

Our training is about to end, & we have a month left before our closing ceremony. I just want this OJT phase to end coz I'm not happy with how they organized it. There's so much time wasted. The schedule is a mess and the tasks are not well distributed. There are also a lot of things that I think we're supposed to know but are not being taught. Well, I just hope someday, I would always have the courage to speak out and still be at peace with people who think otherwise.

Saturday, September 15, 2012

There's a kind of friendship that is meant to last, and I believe we have that, but for now, I'm pressing the pause button, and I know someday, when things are okay, there will be some way for it to be auto played.

I trust my instincts, I trust my heart.

I haven't been to the cinema for quite a while and I don't need to, coz the past weeks were my own version of  blockbuster. As the end of the 2nd term was approaching, we had loads of projects and assignments, which consumed our supposed to be study time for the finals and we were all like in a topsy-turvy state. Anyhow, we survived that week, as well as the final exam, though I’m not confident with the result.

Then we had a 4-day study tour which was more exhausting than being fun. There was a lot of drama and clash of personalities.

Anyway, we visited several PAGASA stations and went up higher in the atmosphere. We literally looked at both sides of the clouds. All I could say is that the people assigned in those stations definitely deserve hazard pay. The Tanay radar station is like a military hideout, 1500 ft above sea level, a really secluded place. They say that the sight of snakes and monkeys around is normal. The view from Baguio radar station is also awesome, located at 2000 meters above sea level. The scary part there is the road, coz one wrong move, and it’s like you'll fall off the cliff.

And now, I'm having some good rest and relaxation at home while the very strong wind continues to blow which is caused by the southwest monsoon and intensified by the 6th cyclone of the year, GENER (int'l name: SAOLA).

Preggy friends

My friends called me the other night and I became so emotional. Chanty is now on vacation from her teaching job in Thailand and she's with my 2 preggy friends, Ivy and Flora. I was so happy when Ivy told me that she's 2 months pregnant. I know they've been wanting to have a baby. I was filled with so much emotion especially when they told me about their plans for the baby shower on October and November. I miss them so much and I wish I could be with them for these celebrations.

Let's get it on, July!

When July kicked in, things started to become exciting. A lot of things happened lately which brought some good kind of stress.
Tonight will be my first on the job training at PAGASA. I like the fact that whatever I will be doing tonight, I'm already serving or helping my countrymen. I'm keeping my hopes high that all these processes that I need to go through before I get the job/item will go smoothly. I still have my fear though that I might be taken out from the list for this second semester. My grades are really low this time. But despite all these, I wanna keep believing that this is where God wants me to be.

And last weekend was pretty exciting too :). I'm back!!!!

DINDO is the fourth tropical storm that has entered the Philippine area of responsibility this year. It has an international name DOKSURI. Yesterday, PAGASA already raised public storm warning signals in some provinces over Northern Luzon. The cyclone is moving fast and I hope it will continue to do so.

I never hope for disasters, but somehow, the coming of tropical cyclones excites me. Maybe it's really like this when you're into meteorology.

Monday, June 25, 2012

This is a late post since I didn't have internet connection for the past week. Grrrr to Globe. Anyway, TS Carina, with international name Talim, entered PAR last June 20 and it only stayed for about 6 hours. It brought rain over northern Luzon.
Today, there are 2 Low Pressure Areas (LPA) spotted on the Eastern side of  the Philippines, and these may further develop into tropical cyclones.

Rainfall Warning System

A Rainfall Warning System was launched today by PAGASA weather bureau, to monitor the expected rainfall in a certain period of time and in a more defined area. This is the first in the country and for now, only Metro Manila will be monitored. The data will come from the radar stations in Tagaytay and in Subic.

There are three categories in the alert system. Yellow warning means expected rainfall is between 7.5-15 mm within one hour. Green warning means expected rainfall is between 15-30 mm within an hour and Red warning is more than 30mm.

In Time

"In Time" is a sci-fi film, starring Justin Timberlake. I don't like JT in movies but the story is very interesting. It's about a world where time serves as your money and your lifeline. Working means earning time and anything you buy is being paid with time. Every second counts for the poor but the rich have decades to centuries to waste. A bus ride is normally paid with 1 hour and a phone call is paid 1 minute. And if you run out of time, it means death.

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Tropical storm Butchoy, with international name Guchol, has entered the Philippine area of responsibility.  This is the 2nd storm entering PAR this year. Based on the initial forecast of PAGASA, the track will only be on the northeastern portion of PAR without crossing any landmass.

Transit of Venus

Tomorrow, we will witness an astronomical event which happens every 243 years (it also occurs in pairs with an 8 yr gap). Tomorrow's event will be the second for our generation since the first one happened last 2004. We will observe this event tomorrow using the telescope at PAGASA Astronomical Observatory at UP Diliman.
This is like a solar eclipse, but instead of the moon, it will be Venus which will pass between the Earth and the Sun. Since Venus is very far from Earth, then it would only appear like a small black disk passing in front of the sun.

According to PAGASA, it will be observed in the Philippines during the following times:
Contact I – 6:09 a.m. (Venus is entirely outside the disk of the sun, moving inward)
Contact II – 6:27 a.m. (Venus is entirely inside the disk of the sun, moving further inward)
Greatest - 9:29 a.m. (Venus is at the middle of its path across the solar disk; marks the halfway point in the timing of the transit)
Contact III – 12:31 p.m. (Venus is entirely inside the disk of the Sun, moving outward)
Contact IV – 12:49 p.m. (Venus is entirely outside the disk of the Sun, moving outward)

I dreamed a Les Miserables

I've known the song "On My Own" since high school but I didn't really knew the story of Les Miserables until I watched the trailer of the movie, which was recently released, and now I can't get enough of it. For the past few days, I’ve been watching YouTube videos of the musical and fell in love with the characters. The performances of Lea Salonga as Fantine, Samantha Barks as Eponine, Nick Jonas as Marius and the guys who played Javert and Jean Valjean are so so so phenomenal.

The movie will be shown this December, and I also wish I'll be watching it with my sisters.

Saturday, June 2, 2012

The Philippines is now entering the tropical storm season and the first one to cross the PAR (Philippine Area of Responsibility) is TS Ambo. On the average, the country experiences 20 TS every year. Another important weather system that we have is the southwest monsoon known locally as Habagat. This southwest wind from the ocean, particularly the Indian Ocean, brings moisture which flows towards the Asian continent, thus, frequent rainfall is expected.

Busy week

A lot of things happened last week. It started with reports, midterm exam, american idol finale and my parent's visit here in Manila.
American idol - I was satisfied with the result as it coincides with my prediction. I think Phil will have a better career compared to DeWyze and McCreery.
My parents visited last weekend and we went to Tagaytay!

I'm so glad I had a good weekend coz this week will be busier.

Showbiz mode

So sad for Derek-Angelica breakup :(

Friday, May 11, 2012

I've been involuntarily grinding my teeth again for the past few days so I have to wear again my TMJ mouth guard. It made me search more on what really causes this and here's what I found which might be applicable to me:

- Anxiety, stress or tension
- Suppressed anger or frustration
- trauma (such as a car crash)

I hope it will stop, or else all my tooth jackets may fall off.

Floyd vs. Miguel

After watching the fight, now I don't want to see a Mayweather-Pacquiao match. Floyd's body is like a rock and his punches are like Thor's hammer. It was surprising that Cotto was still up until the last round. Well, points are fair and it was a good fight. Was just stunned to see Justin Beiber who accompanied Floyd to the ring.

Meant to be

Suddenly, I have a round trip ticket to Hong Kong for November. Last labor day, at 2am, I was supposed to book tickets for my parents with Cebu Pacific airlines. The first time I submitted it, I got an error so I had to do it over again. When I logged in to my account, I forgot to uncheck "I'm travelling", but I actually changed the names in the fields to my parents'. So I submitted and processed the payment and was shocked to see my name in the passengers' list. Well, partly it's my fault for not rechecking the summary before I submitted the payment. I was too concerned unchecking the optional extra charges. And it's a big bug of their website. Even if the "I'm travelling" box is checked, the names I manually entered should override my stored info.

Anyway, we couldn't do anything about it, so my sister was forced to make it an early Christmas present since I was using her credit card. And I believe it's a "meant to be" mistake. It would be actually better to accompany my parents so they could maximize their time in HK. With the flight schedule, it's like we'll only have 2 days and a half there. I've been there last 2009 and I loved it. I hope my sis could join us. It will also be a perfect time for me to travel again outside the country since our training ends on October.

Movie of the year

THE AVENGERS is definitely the "movie of the year". I finally watched it today after several days of trying to avoid not only the long lines in the cinema, but also with something else. The movie is fun with the right amount of action and laughter. The first few scenes were a bit awkward to me though because I was surprised to see Cobie Smulders. I still see her as Robin from HIMYM. But overall, I'll give it a 9/10 rating and Tony Stark rocks!

And this conversation really made me laugh:
Thor: He's my brother
Black Widow: He killed 80 people in 2 days
Thor: ...He's adopted

AI 11 Top 5

I was really disappointed when Elise Testone got eliminated. She's a good singer, way better than Hollie. So for the top 5, here's what I want to happen:
Phillip Phillips
Jessica Sanchez

I want to see them in the finals. I don't care who'll win, they're both very talented.

3. Joshua Ledet
4. Skylar Laine
5. Hollie Cavanagh

Busy busyhan

Busy days are here. There's just a lot of projects to be submitted next week so I need to stop my procrastination and start working on
 - draft on Climatology
 - research on weather satellites and some fronts affecting the SouthWest monsoon
 - create a flowchart of a monthly record of several weather parameters

So this weekend, I'll say NO to facebook, NO to TVseries but still YES to THE AVENGERS in iMax. :D

out-of-town weekend

It was an unplanned trip. Last weekend we got invites for a summer event at Playa Calatagan. We didn't have other plans so we said yes to a 4-hour day trip to Batangas. It was a perfect time and place to relax and be away from our notebook.

The place is beautiful but only homeowners are allowed to use the swimming pools

so we just unwind near the beach and played some cards and had good food, good music and good company.

I just couldn't explain why are they so insensitive... Common sense is uncommon indeed.

Science and Faith - by The Script

The lines are cheesy but i like it anyway....

Tried to break love to a science
In an act of pure defiance
I broke her heart.
As i pulled apart her theories
As i watched her growing weary
I pulled her apart
Having heavy conversations
About the furthest constellations of our souls. oh
We're just trying to find some meaning
In the things that we believe in
But we got some ways to go.
Of all of the things that she's ever said
She goes and says something that just knocks me dead.

You won't find faith or hope down a telescope
You won't find heart and soul in the stars
You can break everything down to chemicals
But you can't explain a love like ours.

It's the way we feel, yeah this is real
It's the way we feel, yeah this is real

I tried pushing evolution
As the obvious conclusion of the start.
But it was for my own amusement
Saying love was an illusion of a hopeless heart.
Of all of the things that she's ever said
She goes and says something that knocks me dead.

You won't find faith or hope down a telescope
You won't find heart and soul in the stars
You can break everything down to chemicals
But you can't explain a love like ours.

It's the way we feel, yeah this is real.

Of all of the things that she's ever said
She goes and says something that just knocks me dead

You won't find faith or hope down a telescope
You won't find heart and soul in the stars
You can break everything down to chemicals
But you can't explain a love like ours.

It's the way we feel, yeah this is real

Thank you so much.

Luckily, Vday was not cancelled. :)

I woke up early because I heard my roommate giggling when she opened the door. She found cute mugs with our names and some chocolates. They were from our foreign participants who also live in the hostel. They really researched on how Philippines celebrate Vday and it was so sweet of them to prepare.  Another cute surprise came when I got into the classroom. The boys in the class gave a rose to all the girls. It was so thoughtful. Then we (dateless :p), decided to have an all girls dinner date at Technohub. The day was really fun, different but fun.

So here I am, enjoying my cup of green tea, thankful for a wonderful Valentine's day.

RIP Whitney Houston

Your songs are the greatest. Videoke bars won't be the same without your hits.

Didn't We Almost Have It All

Remember when we held on in the rain
The night we almost lost it
Once again we can take the night into tomorrow
Living on feelings
Touching you I feel it all again

Didn't we almost have it all
When love was all we had worth giving?
The ride with you was worth the fall my friend
Loving you makes life worth living
Didn't we almost have it all
The night we held on till the morning
You know you'll never love that way again
Didn't we almost have it all

The way you used to touch me felt so fine
We kept our hearts together down the line
A moment in the soul can last forever
Comfort and keep us
Help me bring the feeling back again

Didn't we have the best of times
When love was young and new?
Couldn't we reach inside and find
The world of me and you?
We'll never lose it again
Cause once you know what love is
You never let it end

The Man Who Can't Be Moved (by Joseph G)

the man who cant be moved-the script (acoustic cover by joseph gara) by nicksound

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand
Saying if you see this girl can you tell her where I am

Some try to hand me money, they don't understand
I'm not broke I'm just a broken hearted man
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do
How can I move on when I've been in love with you

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I'm not moving
I'm not moving

Policeman says son you can't stay here
I said there's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I'm not moving
I'm not moving
I'm not moving
I'm not moving

People talk about the guy
Who's waiting on a girl, oh whoa
There are no holes in his shoes
But a big hole in his world

Maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved
And maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news
And you'll come running to the corner
'Cause you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved
I'm the man who can't be moved

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we meet
Oh, you see me waiting for you on a corner of the street

So I'm not moving
('Cause if one day you wake up, find that you're missing me)
I'm not moving
(And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be)
I'm not moving
(Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet)
I'm not moving
(Oh, you see me waiting for you on a corner of the street)

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move

"A really difficult series of undergraduate and an almost impossible series of graduate Meteorology courses where you are forced, against your will, to derive a lot of pointless shit. Avoid at all costs." -urban dictionary

I got 5 units of this and I don't know how to start studying my notes which I don't understand. $#%%&*&??

jog jog jog

I started to jog again, and it felt good. I just jog inside the compound after class. I hope I could do this regularly for at least this year, while I'm on training. It feels like I’m gaining so much weight now since we just sit all day at class and sit all night to study, plus I always have my midnight snack, now that the fridge is just inside our room.  I need to seriously exercise and lose some pounds or else I’ll end up buying more clothes.

Last week's midterm exam was very exhausting. We had to take 8 tests in 2 days. Whew! Back in college, the major exams are distributed in one week. So here I am, trying to have a laid back weekend, hoping to regain my energy. I just need something to inspire me today. :(

Happy 2012

It's a happy new year!!!!  A new course, new set of friends, new place.... a lot of new things to be thankful for.

This year will be more challenging for me as i continue with my course in Meteorology. I have been busy since I got back here in Manila since next week will be our midterm exam. It's really like college all over again but with more effort. I just hope i'll make it 'til the end of this course. The road ahead is uncertain but I'm prayin' that I am taking the road which God wants me to take.
