The other day, I got to visit Circular Quay and had dinner at The Rocks, in a German restaurant, Lowenbrau Keller. The place actually reminds me of the movies like Leap Year and Made of Honor. As the resto had German waiters and waitresses, it felt like I'm in Europe, and the band singers who were singing jolly and fast beat songs, also added the whole German feel.

Peace rules!

It is not the season to be belligerent so I just kept silent.

Yesterday, at a coffee shop, a certain Madame cut in line. I really wanted to object, but you know, I did not want to spoil my day. I didn’t let it ruin my mood, even if that's the last thing you need when you have spent hours queuing at bank, ATM, cashiers, restrooms and taxi stand. Anyway, that bad moment was compensated with a great customer service at IRIE Gastropubliko.

Wishlist 2013

I am enormously grateful for all the blessings this year and I could not ask for more, not even freemason jewelry or a car. This year started well, had difficulties along the way, but I know it will end well. So now, my wish list will be:
- food and shelter for the victims of the war, the earthquake and the typhoon
- strength to recover so their lives will go back to normal
- education for the students will go back to normal
- be able to cope with the loss of their loved ones
- guidance for country’s President, Senators, Congressmen, provincial and local government unit’s leaders

and most of all, I wish them LOVE, PEACE, JOY and HOPE.

Wonderful world

I recently came across an article in CNN Travel featuring 50 natural wonders. From the list, I picked my top 3:

I wish I could visit these places someday and personally be awed by nature's never ending beauty. Now I just imagine being there, breathing the fresh air around while admiring the scene. What a wonderful world.

Christmas song

This has always been my favorite Christmas song. I heard it yesterday in a café and it lifted my mood up. This is a song, which I rather just listen to than sing along with it. I can just sit still and imagine happy thoughts while listening to it. I particularly like this version from Nat King Cole:

I survived the holiday rush yesterday, w/c ended with an hour wait for a cab, but I still got lucky coz an airport taxi was particularly looking for a Mactan passenger. Today, traffic will be worse as there are more shoppers, parties and Christmas events, so better leave early today as not to rush for our get-together.

Be patient

Traffic, long lines at department stores, restaurants, and taxi stands - these I wanna avoid this weekend but I simply can't. I need to go to the city this weekend do some shopping for gifts and meet up with friends. So before I go out there, I need to relax, breathe and load up with lots of patience, I will get there when I am meant to get there and it will be done when it's meant to be done.

And some inspiration before the holiday rush, really made me cry..

Almost ready

My documents are here and I am almost ready to go. I am so excited and I just can't hide it. It was such a hassle getting the authority to travel, but all is well now and I am so thankful. No need to be nervous anymore at the immigration, plus, my sister will be able to meet me at the airport. Now, I need to start packing and good thing there's no need for thick boots, thick coats or ski storage; I'll be packing shorts and sandals coz its hello SUMMER!

Give thanks

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away."

An article I've read made me realize that this quote is sometimes misleading. This could be interpreted that life is meaningless without the big breathtaking moments of our lives, when in fact, every breath we take is very miraculous. Most people tend to forget to be thankful for the ordinary things happening every second of our lives and I am guilty of it sometimes, so now, I'll try my best to start each day with a grateful heart and have a grateful attitude.

It's very interesting to know that Metallica had a concert in Antarctica, the coldest, driest, and windiest continent. It's not really their usual concert, with only 100 audience, who are mostly scientist as there are no permanent human residents there. Well, they just want to make another history, though they were just the 2nd group to play there. With the extremely low temperature, a classic breath builder at wwbw maybe helped.

If North Pole has Santa, then South Pole has Metallica!!

I watched the three episodes of The Big Bang Theory season 7 and its witty and hilarious as ever. Raj's still very Indian, Sheldon is extremely Sheldon, and I love the Amy-Howard tandem in episode 3. Good job to the writers and I hope Kunal Nayyar (Rajesh) will get a nomination for a supporting role next year.

"Math, science, history, unravelling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!"

While on a boat to Cebu, I witnessed a spectacular view of a primary and secondary rainbow. It was the closest and most amazing view of a rainbow I've seen. Everyone on the boat was so amazed of the sight and I wish I had a Scouting Camera with me to capture it. The boat was at the perfect location that time to see it; with the sunlight at the back, and the raindrops in front.

Happy 60th birthday Papa Jun. Stay handsome and strong. I love you.

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Sometimes, it's better to express you sadness or anger, coz if you try to keep it to yourself, you'll definitely go crazy. Hidden anger is dangerous, so be nice to yourself, accept that everybody hurts "sometimes", not really every day. So go ahead, be mad, be sad, and be hurt. There'll always be sad songs to make you cry, just like this one:

12 days

12 days before my Christmas starts and I still don't have the authority to travel. It's really discouraging knowing that, personal, international trips need to be approved by the Department head, which is unfortunately in Manila. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed; I know it will come just in time. I need to keep my mood positive these days, had enough bad days for the past few weeks and it’s time to get up and be ready for Santa!! But hmm, does Santa also visit the south part of the globe?

To the mall

It’s a rainy afternoon so I decided to just stay at home and relax; I initially planned to go to the mall. Well, it’s been a long time since I spent my work off days here in Cebu coz I’ve been going home for the past weeks. Surprisingly, when I used my laptop, the desktop display is messed up. I don’t know what caused this, the display only uses about 70% of the screen and the right side is black. I’ve been trying making adjustments in the settings but to no avail.  So rain or shine tomorrow, I’ll head to the mall coz I miss the Christmassy, jolly feel as they play Christmas songs everywhere, but I’ll better prepare myself since it’s so tempting to shop with the holiday spirit.

Happy 60th

Happy 60th birthday Mama. Stay young and beautiful. I love you.

Pacman fans can now rejoice! After giving us 12 rounds of good fight, he was declared as winner via unanimous decision. Well, if it wasn't unanimous, it would have been controversial. Another good part was when Jessica Sanchez sang both the Filipino and the American national anthems. It was simple, sincere and clean.

TC 1324

Yolanda headlines still linger as Visayas continues to suffer the damages brought by the cyclone. The province of Bohol, even if not directly hit by it, is still suffering as power outage continues, but good the good thing is, it will be off my task list, as I have finished my report for TC 1324.

"Typhoon Yolanda with an international name "Haiyan",  is the strongest tropical cyclone in the world for the year 2013. While still in the Pacific Ocean, on November 3, it developed into a tropical depression, it then intensified and became a tropical storm on Nov. 4, and the day after, it further intensified and became a typhoon. Due to its strength and rapid intensification, most National Weather agencies and media around the globe monitored the system and  most of them came up with more or less the same forecast, that it will cross central Philippines. Even before it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), information about the system have already been broadcasted and disseminated through different media (televisions, radio stations, website, SMS) including warnings of the hazards like storm surge, heavy rains, strong winds, flooding and landslides. Due to the expected severity of the system, the day before  it made landfall, President Benigno S. Aquino III delivered a statement emphasizing that Yolanda would bring very real danger. Everyone was prepared, but still, thousands of lives were not spared."

Visayas will rise

Power outage, network outage and insufficient water supply leads to prolonged agony to all the victims of these natural calamities. But I read some good news today - the secretary of the Department of Energy gave assurance that the power supply will be fully restored before Christmas, and DOT said, "The Philippines remains a safe and fun destination for all tourists. The Visayas region, despite Typhoon Haiyan, plays host to several top destinations such as Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, Iloilo, and Bacolod, which remain open for business with their respective ports of entry still accessible to tourists."

Resilience, it's more fun in the Philippines.

Yolanda 2013

In less than a month, I experienced earthquake, tornado and a typhoon, so what could possibly  be next, an alien attack perhaps?

Yolanda was a heartbreaker, she crushed my heart on my first year anniversary working here in PAGASA last November 8. Every news about the devastation breaks my heart. I don't know why is this all happening, can't help but cry when I imagine what the victims went through during the typhoon and also for the survivors coz they have nothing left now. Our country is being tested and I hope we could all stay strong as we help one another. We already had enough casualties this year

20 typhoon Santi
100 war in Zamboanga
200 earthquake in Bohol
10000 typhoon Yolanda

and only God knows if something bigger will follow.

Runway for Jen

So Jennifer A. is planning to build a runway at her Bel Air mansion. Whoa, she's that rich. Well, FRIENDS made her that wealthy which I believe was a million dollars per episode towards the end of the series and they are still earning from that show until now since it is still being aired in several networks worldwide, plus she's doing movies too. So I bet buying Reeds gemstone jewelry, getting a mansion or building a runway wouldn't hurt her finances, especially that she still have upcoming movies. I don't like her that much in movies but she's still one of my favorite actresses.  I just hope her relationship with Justin T will last long.

Not yet over

It's not over yet for aftershocks. Last night, a 5.2 magnitude occurred at 9:58pm which was felt in Bohol and Cebu, followed by a 4.3 around midnight . It was quite scary coz it lasted for several seconds. So for me, it means sleeping w/ the lights on, for another week. I hope this will all be over before Christmas.

Summer Xmas

My VISA and ticket for the warm Christmas holiday are ready, just waiting for my authority to travel. I also need to diet coz I've been craving and eating fast food lately, which maybe the effect of not being scared anymore of aftershocks. I should watch what I eat or else I'll be wearing plus size outerwear for women. Little black dresses won't help this time of the year since I should be bringing bright-coloured clothing for summer.

Visiting the quake’s epicenter | Sun.Star

Helping Sagbayan
Two days before President Aquino visited Sagbayan, three volunteers led by software engineer Joan Saletrero visited some of the town’s more remote barangays to bring food and water. They crossed rough roads, made muddy and dangerous by rain, to reach communities like Libertad del Norte, some six kilometers from the main highway.
“These places are very remote; you would never think people actually live there,” the 32-year-old said in a Facebook post on Oct. 22, after her team delivered goods to six remote barangays. “To those who are organizing relief operations, please include Libertad del Sur and del Norte. They need more help.”
Saletrero was on her way home last Oct. 15, after buying some fresh bread, when she met and started chatting with friends in front of the Bilar church. She saw a huge flock of birds overhead, then heard the ground rumble.
They crawled to an open space and heard the church bell peal from the tremors. “I saw some parts of the church’s façade breaking and falling. It was a terrifying experience. I thought I was going to die.”
Two days later, when Bilar town’s power was restored, Saletrero saw the news of the earthquake’s toll for the first time. She and two sisters, one based in Cebu and the other in Australia, e-mailed friends or sent FB messages to ask for help. She thought they would raise P50,000 at most.
They raised P183,551 in six days.
Saletrero worked with 10 other volunteers who helped her buy and pack food and water. To help as many people as possible, only three persons would go on each distribution trip, so they could load more relief goods in their Sukuzi APV.
To reach earthquake survivors in Sagbayan, their team crossed a rickety wooden bridge, drove past fallen boulders and persisted despite strong aftershocks.
“Knowing that Sagbayan was the epicenter, it was a terrifying experience for us,” she told Sun.Star Cebu.
She expressed hope that other relief operations will reach out to remote barangays where clean water remains scarce, where—despite the President’s appeal for them to go home—families still camp out in plazas or open spaces while they wait for the aftershocks and their anxiety to ebb.
“I hope more people will help our province so that we can all rise again,” Saletrero said. “I hope they will never get tired of helping.”

Better World

It always makes me sad when night falls coz there are still a lot of people in Bohol who don’t have electricity and some may not have blanket, so I just close my eyes and say a little pray that they could endure the darkness and the cold. Their suffering won’t end soon; it will take some time to recover. It’s really sad.
So I dedicate this song to all the victims of the Earthquake in Bohol. I would love to hear this being sung by the Loboc children's choir, and inspire everyone to DREAM, because so long as we can dream, there's a BETTER WORLD.

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

URDUJA, the 21st tropical cyclone this year, will just pass by the NE corner of PAR and is not expected to affect any part of the country. But we are still expecting 2-3 TCs 'til the end of the year, so we need to stay vigilant especially that at this time of the year, cyclones usually passes Visayas region.
Lord, please give us time to recover before giving us another calamity,

Cause Your love just keeps on healing us
No matter how we bruise
If we just trust You
Your love just keeps on dealing us
One more clue
One more chance that wasn't there before
In your arms
no pain can harm the way we're feeling
Lord we know that Your love is healing

Shocks after shocks were felt today, a week since the major earthquake happened. I'm still not used to these aftershocks which is believed to last for a month. The news' headlines are still about the disaster which makes it difficult to swallow your dinner knowing thousands of your fellow Boholanos aren't eating tonight. I know that almost everyone in our province is on the move in helping, so, in our own little way, we are already in our third batch of goods to be distributed which includes blankets, and hopefully, there will be more donors so we can still go on our 4th which could include medicines like atorvastatin 10 mg.

Heal our Land

In my lectures on meteorological hazards, sometimes, I'd mention that women should be agents of RESILIENCE - "the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties", but It's easier said than done. After the 7.2 magnitude earthquake which happened last October 15, I am still weak and scared and emotional. An aftershock and being alone always leaves me trembling and palpitating and every time I see a post in Facebook about some barangay which don't have drinking water, my heart is crushed. I thought I will be strong in times of disaster, but no, I am such a weakling, so Lord, I pray, heal my heart and heal our land.

Helping Bohol

Bohol will never be the same again. In a matter of seconds, Bohol was shaken and left us devastated. The experience was very traumatic and I know it will take some months before I could sleep well. Yesterday, after seeing the situation of a neighboring town, I was heartbroken. Their homes are shattered into pieces, they are homeless. But Bohol, won't be in this state for long. It's also heartwarming to know that those who are less affected are now united and helping our fellow Boholanos in any way they can. Today, we also started soliciting from our friends to help some areas in the town of Sagbayan. We are overwhelmed by the response and the amount we solicited will help families survive for a day. Tomorrow, we will be buying groceries in wooden boxes to be distributed to some families in remote areas, who don't have direct access to relief goods given by most organizations/teams who visited the town.

My beloved Bohol, will never be the same, but we will stay strong and we will rise again. #bangonBohol

Santi 2013

The 19th cyclone this year is expected to landfall in Aurora province tonight. It will bring strong winds and heavy to torrential rains over Luzon so I hope everyone is prepared by now as the weather bureau has given enough warning on what to expect for the next hours. This is already a typhoon category, so it will definitely bring damage to agriculture and infrastructure but I hope there will be no casualties.

Papa's flight to Sydney will be tonight as well; praying for a safe flight and I'm hoping the typhoon will weaken after landfall so I could also travel by sea safely tomorrow.

Sunday, October 6, 2013

I find the story, and the combination of cast weird.  Jennifer G., Ty Burrell, and Olivia Wilde are okay w/ their roles, but for Alicia S., I didn't recognize her, maybe because the image I had in mind was still during her teenage years, but w/ this movie, she played a mother and she looked old. Hugh Jackman, I think the role is too small to be played by him. But anyway, it was an interesting movie, I didn't know there is butter sculpting. It looks fun and the artistic side of me wants to experiment w/ a stick of butter, but room temperature just won't do,  it would be like holding the butter for these clamps. Well, I'm giving this a 5/10.

Thursday, October 3, 2013

O for October and Optimistic. Today, I want to remind myself to be always positive and look at the bright side of things especially during the times when I feel groggy and cranky. I want to be more cheerful, grateful, kind, thoughtful, friendly and beautiful. I am enjoying my "Cheese", and hey, its already my work-weekend, I have more reasons to be cheerful!

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Finally, it's my rest day and I'm going home to Bohol right after my shift. I'm not really going downtown but it's a place where I could forget all my troubles and forget all my cares. I miss videoke singing because of a song I heard today.

So here's the inspiring song I heard from the very cute commercial of McDonalds:

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I feel like I've been flexible for some time now, and I thought it's all good, but eventually, being in this state is in a way, losing your personality. You know, instead of expressing your anger or dislike, you just tend to be quiet so you'd be able to live and work harmoniously with the people around you. You try to be accommodating to whatever situation you are in. It may sound okay, but it may have a negative effect coz in the long run, you may lose the confidence to voice out whatever emotions or thoughts you've been absorbing.
Well, just a random thought on this almost-end-of-the-workweek-graveyard-shift.

Decor time

Christmas is early at the office and I was tasked to put up the tree and some other decorations. I'm still using the old ones so I need to go to the mall this week to buy more decors and maybe shop for a burlap table runner here with holiday theme. And when my sister comes home, we will also start decorating at home.

Beautiful Sunday

Another beautiful day today in Cebu; it's going to be sunny and windy, no worries for rain or thunderstorms during the day. This is a good start of my week, and I'll start working on some paperwork for my visa and I'm hoping I could lodge my application this week. I'm excited, and I also hope that all goes well with my Authority to Travel which has to be signed with the agency and department head.

Odette 2013

Odette is the strongest tropical cyclone so far this year, even the central Visayas is feeling the effects of it. Due to this TC, the southwest monsoon has been enhanced and so we experienced windy days for the past few days. There are approximately five cyclones more this year and one of them may track Visayas. Everyone should be prepared and start looking for welding supplies to fix some loose materials in our house so it will not be blown away by these strong winds.

Tonight will be the first day of my work week and it’s going to be a busy one, especially that another disturbance is about to enter PAR, so avoid sea travel in small vessels this time, the sea waves are moderate to rough. Be safe everyone.

Let there be peace

This is really sad. Few weeks after the Zamboanga dispute started, another bombing occurred in one of the malls in Davao City and a bomb threat in another mall. This dispute isn't gonna end that easily and I feel sad for all the victims and even for the soldiers who have to be there to fight...

"Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace"

di Caprio

I recently watched "Catch Me If You Can", and it made me wonder why does Leonardo don't have an Oscar for best actor? He's such a great lead actor in great movies like:

Man in the Iron Mask
Catch Me If You Can
The Departed
Blood Diamond
Body of Lies

I won't be home for Christmas

Oh Christmas, you are really almost here, I am already feeling you, and you always bring this indescribable mixed emotion so early in the morning. It is still 4:30 and I’m already up, so here I am, in front of my laptop, coz my place isn’t really a good spot where you could enjoy early morning sunrise. So I'm just listening to Christmas songs playlist in YouTube, but these ads are really annoying, I hope I could take them out with Iolo, but anyway, the songs are always saying, "I’ll be home for Christmas", but I don't want to be literally at home  during the holidays, coz home will be somewhere down under, and first step for this will be to submit my leave form next week, I really pray that things will go well.

Our Day Will Come

I like this version by Amy Winehouse.

Monsoon break

Southwest monsoon is starting to recede and we are about to have a monsoon break. This would be the perfect time to go to Boracay coz it's not so crowded this time. When we were there last time, we tried out the helmet diving and I wanna do that again, then try out other fun activities like the Zorb, ATVs for Kids and the banana boat.

Work shift

And my body clock is messed up now that I'm in the graveyard schedule, a 11-hour shift, plus a Thursday-Friday off. Every time I wake up at night, I'm always confused with the date and time and I really need to list down even the small things that I need to do because I keep on forgetting it. Well, its takes a little more time to get used to this schedule, and once I do, it will already be time to rotate our schedule.

The Voice iPad

I enjoyed using this application coz it makes u feel like you are in the actual blind audition. They have good song choices from the top hits to songs from the show. I've also been challenged coz I really wanted to get all four coaches to spin their chairs. Once I'd get that, then I'll be ready for Battle.

I am officially no longer part of your fan club. It would have been ok if it was Megan Young or Iza Calzado or Liz Uy, but Cristine Reyes? Duhhhhh.

September Mornin'

"Wake me up when September ends", "Do you remember the 21st night of September", then there's "September morn". Why are there a lot of songs about September? why not February, May or maybe October? Well, whatever the reason is, the start of 'ber months gives me excitement, as I'll be seeing white christmas lights soon and I hope and pray that I will be where I have to be during the holidays.

I'm back to graveyard shift for one month, just like my call center days. I'm still adjusting though coz I have a different environment here in my new job. Unlike the call center, my office location is quite remote and there aren't really shops around, then, there only two of us during the shift, so its kind of lonely, but I could take lonely, not just scary.

Welcome, Kylene

Thank God for the blessings. Yesterday Ate Yen gave birth to a tiny, beautiful baby girl Kylene. She's so lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful family and I'm also a lucky aunt to have very adorable nieces. I'm thinking that she's the opposite of Chy, she could be the silent and bashful type and I'm guessing that Kye will excel in the field of Science or Math. I just hope that I'll see them often.

On another happy note, I got a new toy from my sis Joan; she gave me her iPad. I'm really so so lucky to have generous sisters. This would be very helpful during my travels, especially for my eBooks.

Are my feet getting smaller or are size 5s getting bigger?

Sunday, August 11, 2013

Public storm warning signal is already raised in several provinces of Luzon due to typhoon Labuyo (Utor). It is a strong cyclone which is expected to make landfall in the Northern Luzon tomorrow. According to the weather bureau, as of 7:00 PM today (11 August 2013), The eye of the typhoon was located based on all available data at 170 km Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and gustiness of 200 kph. It is forecasted to move West Northwest at 19 kph.

Stay safe everyone.

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Our office wasn't spared of the severe thunderstorm. Even if we have a lightning arrester, one of our electrical unit was struck by lightning which caused serious damages to some parts of the RADAR, modems, routers, some CPUs and other equipment. No antivirus or ESET licenses could save the computers. So for 2 days now, we don't have internet, no thunderstorm and rainfall advisories. But the good thing is, the weather is improving and we'll have sunny periods at least for the next few days.

Monday, August 5, 2013

Last night was the scariest thunderstorm experience. The storm overhead lasted for three hours, brought by the low pressure area. The sound was very scary, it seems like you can hear the crackling sound of lightning followed immediately by a very loud thunder. I was sweating last night coz all I could do is cover my face with pillow to ease my fear, I neither want to see the reflection of the lightning nor the sound of the thunder.

Happy Trip Ma!

My mom's going to fly to Australia this Sunday. She's not new to travelling but she's being very anxious about her travel and she's nervous about it, maybe because of the recent news on plane accidents. Anyway I wish her a safe and comfortable flight and I hope she'll be able to adapt to the cold weather in Sydney this time of the year and avoid knee walker questions.

Goodbye SE W350i

I bought a new phone for my dad today coz his Sony Ericsson W350i is now broken. So I was looking for the same model as he requested but unfortunately, no one is selling it anymore so I bought the Nokia 206. It is user friendly and I know my dad's going to like it especially that it has good sound quality just like using sennheiser e609. I was surprise that I had few options now for the basic phone with keypads. Most of their stocks are already in touchscreen mode and there are a lot of brands now that I've never heard of. Anyway, Nokia is one of the trusted phone brands and I really hope this too will last just like the SE.

Thursday, July 25, 2013

I survived TODAY! I was busy with the issuance of several thunderstorm advisories; people are more concerned now w/ these warnings after the severe thunder and lightning they've experienced for the past few days, so we get more inquiries about this now. I was also busy with the calls to airline ticketing offices, which annoyed me as I was being passed from one department to another for just a simple question about baggage allowance. Then, I was doing some unsuccessful online booking due to credit card validation issues. But good thing is that, the thunderstorms dissipated early and I still had time to go shopping for Ate Yen's stuff.

So tomorrow will be another busy day, I'm just hoping that my boss will be in a good mood coz I'll file for a vacation leave. Excited! :D

Monday, July 22, 2013

It feels lonely now that I'm back to my routine. I just had a great time last week and I hope we could do this every year.

Last last week

We went to Eastwest Cafe in IT Park. We always love their mango sushi, banana milkshake and the vodka slush.

We had dinner in our favorite ngohiong place near USC-TC, then we had beer and this was the highlight. It was really funny but I feel sad for the waiter. He really couldn't spell it right. So we were wondering if he also misspelled his name.

We attended the baptismal of baby Euclid (baby on the right).

Mother of the baby and the fairy godmothers...

Then at night, our other college friends joined us for dinner, KTV and coffee.

Family day at Holiday Gym and Spa Hotel in Banilad.

ISANG 2013

ISANG is the 9th tropical cyclone of the year. This disturbance enhances the Southwest monsoon which is why we are experiencing rains for the past few days, and this seasonal wind is going to stay until August. This is the time of the year when I love to just stay at home and enjoy the rainfall with a warm cup of coffee. But, I have to be at work and it feels uneasy sometimes, if only I had a pair of Zamberlan Vioz boots, then my walk to and from work wouldn't be that uncomfortable.

Goodbye Finn

This is more heartbreaking to watch now that Finn's really gone...

Monday, July 15, 2013

There was Ratatouille in my room last night. It freaked me out. I thought my room was already pest free, after using the chalk roach killer, but this is even worse. Got to have a general cleaning tonight, I need to make sure there won't be any furry creatures disturb my sleep. I wish I could have a place like the Paris Luxe Apartments and not be bothered by all these pests. :(

Found this book in one of our cabinets at home. I used this book back in college for my subject Earth Science, and I was surprised that I used this for one semester and I was already studying the introduction of Meteorology back then. :)

It's been a long and stressful week, so I decided to just stay in Cebu for the weekend. We've been busy with thunderstorm warnings this week, then I was loaded with administrative tasks which is due next week. I'm glad there aren't any Manila travels scheduled yet coz my besties are here and I want to spend as much time as possible with them.
So now, I got to do what I gotta do while enjoying the "Noughties on a Friggin Fly-day Friday" music at Monster Radio BT 105.9

It’s a good kind of weird to have a leveled up topic now when I spent time with my friends.  They were already talking about epidurals, s26, and the argument on whether it is better to have branded vaccines for the child, or whether the generic ones provided by the local health centers are just as good. Well, it was still fun as long as I have my margarita w/ me.

Sandugo month

Sandugo is an annual festival in Bohol w/c commemorates the blood compact that symbolizes the friendship between Datu Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. I won't be coming home for the celebration but I’m glad I was able buy tickets for my parents for the David Pomeranz concert on the 21st at the Bohol Tropics Resort. It's good that they are bringing international artists to Bohol. There are a lot of activities for the month of July, like the beauty contest, band sh0wcase which could feature Epiphone Les Paul Custom guitars but what I miss most is the street dancing.

Huaning 2013

is the 8th tropical storm in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Below is a satellite image of the typhoon showing a defined eye, as it enters PAR. If it continues with its West Northwest track, then it's going to be a disaster in Taiwan. Residents in northern Luzon should be alert too.

July rocks!

I am so happy that my best friends are here this month. I spent the last 2 nights with them having endless fun and laughter. Since it is a work week, the videoke or the concert night with have to wait. There are still a lot of events happening this month and hopefully, we'll all be complete before the month ends. It's almost 8 years now since the last time the four of us were together.

It felt like it's the last-day-sale and i had to buy the pair of shoes I've been eyeing, which is at 50% off. So yeah, I had to buy some today since I noticed that the price is starting to go up.

Wish for big space

I have a tiny room here in Cebu. I feel comfortable here w/ the airconditioner and the reasonable rent, but during weekends, I'd wish I have a bigger space. I want a place where I can dance or exercise, a space for a refrigerator, and a kitchen where I can cook and have access to kitchenaid dishwasher repair. It's just a wish for now, but I'm really hoping that someday, I could own a small subdivision unit here in Mactan.

Super supermoon

I’m hoping for a less cloudy sky tonight so I can have a better view of the supermoon. It will be the time of the year when the moon is closest to the earth, so it will look much bigger and brighter.  There have been several myths about this event, relating to tragedies like the Titanic and the Japan tsunami; though I don't really believe in these myths, there's still a part of me that's scared for these natural calamities to occur.

This is an unforgettable song for me. Before the era of The Voice or American idol, I had been joining contests in our small town during the '90s. This is my winning piece, with a prize of 20 pesos. I remember mom would cook my favorite fried chicken every time I join so I’ll be inspired and won’t be nervous. The lyric of this is very meaningful as it talks about the youth and it is very melodic.

Because my nickname is unique, people always misspell or mispronounce it. During our training, I was given this ID but good thing they replaced it right away. :)

Friday, June 21, 2013

When I was in Manila, I had a sound sleep, but now that I'm back in my boarding house in Cebu, I usually wake up in the middle of the night and having difficulty to go back to sleep. It could be the dogs' bark, or the loud footsteps of the people upstairs or maybe the bed? Well maybe I need a memory foam topper.

Dante, Emong

Dante and Emong, are the tropical cyclones this month and they followed almost the same path. These two enhanced the southwest monsoon which brought heavy rains for the past few days. Aside from these cyclones, tornadoes are also more frequent now since it’s a thunderstorm season; the cumulonimbus or thunderstorm cloud is a source of tornadoes or waterspouts. I was in Manila for the past 3 days and the situation there is worse. It was my first experience to be caught in heavy traffic around 1am in EDSA because of the heavy rains, which flooded some areas in the metro.

The Bellevue beach

This is the beachfront of The Bellevue Resort and I should be wearing juicy swimwear from in this picture. Looks really nice but I heard there are long-spined black sea urchins in the area that can sting. I miss the beach, and I hope I could go back to Boracay this season, when the southwest monsoon still prevails. I think it’s better to visit this time of year because it's windy, wavy, more affordable hotel rates and fewer crowds.

Father's Day 2013

We celebrated father's day at The Bellevue Resort in Panglao. Happy Father's day Pa, and thanks to my sisters for sponsoring our meal. :D

Finally, our workstation has been set up. We now have a better view of the satellite and radar images as well as the different weather models. I was expecting that high stand with mount will be needed for all these monitors, but this side of the wall is just perfect. Because of this, I was transferred to a different table, which is much better, farther from the negative energy radiating in the office.

Low Pressure

It's a rainy weekend due to the Low Pressure Area over the Philippine Sea. Thunderstorms are scattered all over Visayas and Mindanao area and a lot of flights have been cancelled. I just hope everyone is safe and be more cautious and prepared for floods and landslides. With this, the onset of the wet/rainy season will soon be declared.
On another note, my dentist appointment is cancelled, she needs longer time for the replacement of the post in my jacket and there's no more available slot tomorrow. :( I just hope my tooth will still be there til the time I visit her.

Back to reality

BACK TO REALITY.  It felt like I had a vacation for one week. It started with our family reunion, my seminar in Manila, then Cebu time with my sister, which means hotel accommodation. :)
Tomorrow, I'll be back at the office and I'm hoping there won't be bad surprises. Had a bad experience the last time I was out for week. Well, at least I can guard myself now. Tomorrow's going to be busy, especially that it will be the start of the school year, and we are also approaching the wet season and we are expecting 3 tropical cyclones this month.

June wedding

Congratulations Kuya Alan and Daisy on your wedding day. Finally! :D Congratulations too for being the first in our batch. I wish we were there to witness the ceremony, to see the platinum wedding bands, to catch the bouquet, to have a toast and, to sing and dance. Cheers to long engagement and good luck as you venture another chapter of your life.

5th wheel

I'm on a three-day seminar workshop for ISSP at the National Computer Center in UP Diliman. The important thing I learned today is that "a car should always have 5 wheels". It means that a back up is one of the top things to be considered when making plans. The seminar is really enlightening and I hope that the plans on improving and strengthening the Philippine digital strategy will be realized in the timeframe mentioned. Well, the process is slow but at least we are getting there.

This is the song which was sung by our uncles during the reunion. They are really good singers and they sounded really nice with their voice blending.

Their performance reminded me of the days when there was still harana, a very romantic old Filipino tradition for courtship by serenading.

Monday, May 27, 2013

I was able to capture the majestic view of the supermoon last May 25.

We had our 3rd Saletrero family reunion last May 25-26. We successfully hosted it and had good feedback from our relatives about the place. It was the best reunion so far and the impromptu presentations of each family made it more fun. We were very entertained with the kids' dance number, as well as with the presentations of our uncles.

It's really good to have this gathering of families; you would be able to trace your place in the family tree and I am hoping that I could still attend next year so I won't forget the names or faces of our relatives.

50 + +

The training last week, the reunion, and my hunger for hinilisan made my weight a 50++.. I believe I gained almost 3 kilos for the past 2 weeks. I thought missing the fiesta celebrations here in Bohol was good for my weight, but it only made me crave for more humbang baboy, dinuguan and cbicharon, and now that I'm home, I satisfied my cravings, plus plus.

Magic Sing

The MagicSing brought fun to our family gathering yesterday. It didn't matter even if we don't have new chip for new songs because the classics are still the best when it comes to videoke. And we didnt need to have cheap mellophone at wwbw for accompaniment coz the sound system at the venue was also good enough to make our voices sound nice.

Long week

It feels like this is going to be a very long week. I am looking forward to our family reunion this weekend and my sister's coming home. Then next week, I'll be attending training in Manila. It just feels so good to be out of the office these days. Sitting in the office feels like I am choked with the best bark collar, a lot of negative energy around and I am guarding myself so I won’t be infected.

My prayer

O Father, give us the humility which realizes its ignorance,
Admits its mistakes, recognizes its need, welcomes advice, accepts rebuke.
Help us always to praise rather than to criticize,
To sympathize rather than to discourage, to build rather than to destroy,
And to think of people at their best rather than at their worst.
This we ask for thy name’s sake.

Back to base

Just got home from the three-day training in Manila. It's about a new satellite that we will use for forecasting. Some modules are too technical for me but the actual application was quite okay though it would take years to master it. But I really want to be trained more on drawing streamlines. for trade printing would be a good source to look for printers for weather maps and it would be nice if we could have one at our station. There are computerized drawings now, of weather maps, but starting from the very foundation of this would be very helpful.
Anyway, it's good to be back in Cebu; Manila's temperature is almost unbearable. I just wanna stay indoors all the time, even at night.

Wait, Read, Fly

Good thing I brought this with me. Books don't run out of battery so it kept me company while waiting for the delayed Cebu Pacific flight.

Another borrowed book from my sister's library.

Dong Juan

Dong Juan, the name sounds very masculine. Knowing the name alone, my impression would have been, it's a place selling high end liquors, cigars and cigar magazine, and it’s a place where big time businessmen and politicians hang out. But no, it’s just a fine new restaurant in Galleria with a good view of the Tagbilaran City wharf. The food is good and the price is reasonable.

Fiesta 2013

Happy Fiesta Bilar!

May 15 is our annual town fiesta in honor of St Isidore the Farmer. I wish everyone in our town a happy and peaceful celebration, and may the election hot issues now be over.

Of course, fiesta won't be the same without these.......

Dream Catcher

I had sleep paralysis again last night, and it's always a scary experience. So now, I started reading about it and it makes me feel better that the experience is common, the feeling like  there's someone or something evil is moving closer to you and you neither can move nor breathe. And just like others, this will drag you to sleep 4-5 to times before you get your strength to really wake up.

If yoga could diagnose this, then I'd be needing yoga mats wholesale price. I believe it would really help to have a relaxed and still mind. Or maybe, I just need a dream catcher.

New Buzzz

A new branch of The Buzzz cafe is now in Galleria, Tagbilaran City. The new place is much bigger and the location is really perfect w/ a view of the sunset.

Once Upon a TV

I've been watching once upon a time TV series and I'm starting to like it. It's a fairy tale series in which the characters were brought to the real world because of a curse. So, the episodes have those elements of the fairy world like the ogres, witches, wolves, Snow's bow & arrow, magic beans, giants, and all those kind of stuff, but I didn’t expect there was a good looking Pinocchio and a sexy Captain Hook.

Mama's day

Happy mother's day Mama Nena,

Election Noise

Two nights before the election and the quiet locality of Zamora is very alive. Since I got home today, the sound of motorcycles rushing all night annoys me, plus the presence of these uniformed armed men just adds up the heat of elections. Maybe these men are on the look out for people giving out something like morgan dollar, or simply, those who are trying to buy votes. I wish this will be over already.

Hair plan

Should I go back to straight or should I stay w/ my curly hair. Well, it has been seven months now since I had my curls, and I feel like going to the salon. I just haven't decided though what to do, but I do love this braid; it makes me feel like I'm a princess. :)

Dessert hunt

It's Friday but I'm not really in the mood for a night out. Even though my boss requested me to be with our visitors, I refused to go, I could just lead them to the coffee shops and cheap smoke shop near the office. I am just more excited to experiment the Chewy No-Bake Cookies & Cream dessert recipe I recently found. But this have to wait 'til I go home in Bohol, don't have any stove in my place here in Cebu.

This already looks good but I'm still looking for other non-bake, easy-to-prepare desserts for fiesta.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

but I still prefer to call it a shooting star.  I saw one last night and it was really clear as we had cloudless sky. Because it was so bright, I was thinking that I could make two wishes, there aren't any rules anyway. Well, may my wishes come true.

Garden table

Here comes May, the time of the year when a lot of towns in Bohol would be celebrating fiesta, and our home in Bilar is fiesta ready with mama's new garden table set. So sad, I can't go home for the celebration, it would have been fun to prepare and experiment new desserts. It is also typical for the visitors to browse through photographs while waiting, so I am planning to print the Hong Kong pictures at Banana Book but they only have it in Ayala, which is quite far. Services like overnight prints at would have been convenient for me, now that I live in a different island.

Fiesta is really more fun in Bohol.

In my dream last night, I had a view of what our house looked like 20 years ago. The windows, the doors, the bed, I can't exactly describe how it looked but it's home, I grew up w/ those weird windows and peed on that bed when I was a kid. The grey backdoor also reminds me of the old water pump we had. But, my dream ended badly, there was a flashflood, and we had to go to our neighbor’s house since their place is more elevated.
Maybe I was too nervous about my lecture today that I dreamt about it. Now, I'm a bit relaxed so hoping for happy ending dreams.

Save eyes

I really want to wear eyeglasses now everytime I’m in front of a computer. I already feel like I have a computer vision syndrome which is characterized by having a blurred vision after a certain period of time. Got to browse some glasses at, or maybe a generic pair of glasses will do. I just need something to protect my eyes especially now that I’m focused on our website and spending most of my work time w/ it.

Brighter than the sun

Another song for the summer...

Stop me on the corner
I swear you hit me like a vision
I, I, I wasn't expecting
But who am I to tell fate where it's supposed to go with it?
Don't you blink you might miss it
See we got a right to just love it or leave it
You find it and keep it
Cause it ain't every day you get the chance to say

Oh, this is how it starts, lightning strikes the heart
It goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun
Oh, it could be the stars, falling from the sky
Shining how we want, brighter than the sun

I never seen it, but I found this love, I wanna feel it
You better believe, I'm gonna treat it
Better than anything I've ever had
Cause you're so damn beautiful, read it
It's signed and delivered, let's seal it
Boy we go together like peanuts and paydays and MARLEY and reggae
And everybody needs to get a chance to say

Oh, this is how it starts, lightning strikes the heart
It goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun
Oh, it could be the stars, falling from the sky
Shining how we want, brighter than the sun

Everything is like a whiteout, cause we shicka-shicka shine down
Even when the, when the light's out but I can see you glow
Got my head up in the rafters, got me happy ever after
Never felt this way before, ain't felt this way before

I swear you hit me like a vision
I, I, I wasn't expecting
But who am I to tell fate where it's supposed to go?

Oh, this is how it starts, lightning strikes the heart
It goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun
Oh, it could be the stars, falling from the sky
Shining how we want, brighter than the sun
Oh, this is how it starts, lightning strikes the heart
It goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun
Oh, it could be the stars, falling from the sky
Shining how we want, brighter than the sun

Brighter than the sun (3x)

Oh, this is how it starts, lightning strikes the heart
It goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun (4x)

Work load

There's a lot new things at work this month which keeps me busy. First, we now have the new COSMO up and running for forecasting. I won't say that it is better than the other models, but it's pretty exciting for me since it's going to help me, a newbie, make a localized forecast. Next is the Visayas website, it's already up and we are now customizing the contents. Along with these, we have created our twitter and FB accounts for the warning of thunderstorm and heavy rains. There ain't gonna be lazy days at the office since we're are hoping to launch this by June.

All these are good improvements of the agency's regional centers, but the problems now is lack of manpower. You can't just designate these things to a workflow management software. We are lucky for now that we have on the job trainees, but once they are done w/ their hours, then goodluck to us.

The BBT season 6

The Big Bang Theory is still on a roll. It's on the sixth season and the episodes are getting better each time. Thanks to Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, for creating this silly, witty, hilarious TV series. And just recently, I noticed the message at the end of each episode, it is the vanity card written by Chuck Lorre and I also enjoy reading it. What a talent.
So, it's official, this is number 2 in my list of TV series, with FRIENDS still on the top.

"Smart is the new sexy."

Amanda S.

It’s a week for Amanda Seyfried in my laptop. I've been watching her movies starting with Letters to Juliet, Red Riding Hood, the musical Mamma Mia and Les Miserables, plus I am reading the book Dear John, and my favorite part is when she sang Honey, Honey. She has a pretty face and a beautiful voice, and a good actress. Well, I hope she'll have more good movies to come and won't be like those ‘good girls gone bad’ in Hollywood.

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

I was at David's Salon the other day, and I just noticed that men are vainer these days. While I had my manicure, I was counting, and the men outnumbered the women. Men now like to have facial treatment or have their hair colored, and some even have manicure/pedicure. I can feel the climate changing in the world of vanity. Men shouldn’t compete with us; they should just stay with their computer games.

Time of the year

It’s the time of the year for sinunuban and bibingka. I’m glad that I am not yet on shifting schedule, and I get to enjoy this long vacation, and Bohol tourist spots would be at its peak during this time. But, vacation is almost over so I’ve got to start packing again and maybe buy womens travel clothes here before going back to Cebu and other things needed for the osmena peak trip, which hopefully will push through. So for now, I’ll enjoy d rest of March coz there’s loads of work when I go back this Monday.

ABBA Mania

ABBA Mania will be in Cebu!  I am excited to watch the concert since I’m an ABBA fan. I know most of their songs and I’m glad that Ma and Pa will be able to watch it too. Thanks much sistahs, I already bought three tickets. The group will be playing the greatest hits of ABBA; it will be another ultimate music experience. The concert will be on the 20th of April at Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City.
Hopefully there could also be Beatles Mania; I’ll definitely watch it too. And I hope there’s also some rock band like Foo Fighters or the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Well, I know there will be more good concerts in Cebu especially during Sinulog season.

The buzz

There has been a lot of buzz this week, and I’m not talking about the James-Kris or Chiz-Heart issue.
Last Monday, PAGASA declared the official start of "summer". So it means we may feel a temperature of up to 40-degree Celsius (based on heat index or the human perceived equivalent temperature).
Last Wednesday, March 20, is the vernal equinox, the time when we have equal days and nights.
Yesterday, we celebrated the 63rd World and 148th National Meteorological Day, along with the launching of the COSMO, another weather prediction model. Then today, we’re going to have a video conference with the central office people for very important announcement/changes in the management.

And based on international models, something's brewing over the Pacific Ocean. We might have a stormy holy week.

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Been obsessed lately with nail polish. I usually just apply it myself, and the cracked one is fun to apply. You could just use this if you want style, rather than going to the expensive nail art at salons. For summer, I'm planning to buy something green or really bright red. I'm also starting to love the grainy texture, because it's not difficult to maintain. I'm glad I had cosmetology in high school, and it would have been cool if my sisters are around, so I could have extra income. They used to pay me 20 SGD everytime I color their nails. :)

Tambis time

Summertime is tambis time! Prepare for the attack of the fruit bats, but I'm no longer scared at them. I just saw a documentary about bats, and I learned that if bats become extinct, then it would really hurt the agriculture sector, since bats eat the insects that attack the plants at night.

what scares me now are these news about comet, meteors and other near Earth objects..

Summer Breeze

My song for the summer..

See the curtains hangin' in the window, in the evenin' on a Friday night.
A little light a-shinin' through the window, lets me know everything is alright.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

See the paper layin' on the sidewalk, a little music from the house next door.
So I walked on up to the doorstep, through the screen and across the floor.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

Sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom. July is dressed up and playing her tune.
And I come home from a hard day's work, and you're waiting there, not a care in the world.
See the smile a-waitin' in the kitchen, food cookin' and the plates for two.
Feel the arms that reach out to hold me, in the evening when the day is through.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

Summer soon

It's going to be officially summer soon and no scheduled trips yet.  I'm still doing the regular shift and afternoons in the office now feels like Sundays, because my co-workers, who are much older than me, are always playing songs from the 50s or 60s, if we have a korg m50, then it would already be like an office concert, but I would only like it if I hear something from the Beatles.

Belated HP

Super belated happy birthday to my very good friend, IVY. I totally forgot to greet you on your birthday,
Cheers to you on your 30th , on being a wife, and now being a mom.
Cheers to our 13 yrs of friendship.
Cheers to love, life and everything else in between.

My weekends are quite different nowadays. I miss those carefree Friday nights last year and we just hang out at our dormitory’s common area and just listen to the guys play the guitar. Though most of the times they don’t agree on the genre, it was still fun and a good way to take the pressures of the week.
I met them again for the orientation last week but everyone was just talking about his or her new tasks at work. We didn’t even have time for videoke. 

Umbrella ella

I'm so unlucky with umbrellas, I lost mine again. It must have dropped in the cab or plane. I remember I bought that one to replace my other umbrella which I left in a cab. :( It was only a 6-month umbrella and I don't want to buy another one, these umbrellas are expensive nowadays. :(

PMS Convention

I attended the 2-day convention of the Philippine Meteorological Society (PMS) in Quezon City, last February 21-22, a good way to celebrate my birthday.  The theme was, “Today’s Meteorologist: Scaling up Effective Early Warning Services (EWS)”. It served as a venue to present the recent hydrometeorological hazards, which are becoming more frequent and more intense. As a new member, it was a great experience for me. Recent developments and studies in the EWS were presented. A Japanese researcher presented about micro satellites. They’re really smart; it looked like they were just manufacturing a DIY auto rotisserie.

The convention was really successful and I learned a lot. During the last part, I was given the task to give a reflection of the activity:

As a METEOROLOGIST, it opened my mind to opportunities: opportunity to learn and master a field in meteorology like weather forecasting, flood forecasting or in aviation; opportunity to maximize the use of these newly developed systems especially in the Visayas region, like the Hydromet Decision Support System (HDSS), Community Based Flood Early Warning System (CBFEWS), and the Rainfall Warning System (RWS)

As WOMAN, it reminded me that I could be an active partner of dissemination of information, and I could be an agent of resilience.

And as a PUBLIC SERVANT, I am more challenged to provide accurate information, in a timely manner and in a way that is understandable to the stakeholders.

Happiness is...

getting a RAZR from your sister. Yeay! This is my second Motorola phone and I love it. This replaces the ATRIX, which will soon be used by my parents. I always get lucky with phones and gadgets, they just come for free. :) I already had a free laptop, iTouch, so hopefully next would be an iPad ;)

Happy Day

Yesterday, my friend Ivy gave birth to a baby girl, Kendall Amaranthe, such a cute name.

It's another Valentine's day and my day started right. I just had a lecture with BEEd students from Cebu Normal University and they were a fun group. I like that kind of audience. So later, as everyone else is panicking for vday, I'll have a date with Nicholas Sparks after work and treat myself w/ white chocolate mocha, since my loveydove’s not around. I first borrowed The Choice, and hoping to see more Sparks' in my sister’s camp trunks.

Shoes for rainy days

We are in the dry cold season but we are still experiencing rainy days due to the “tail end of a cold front”, a system that is not supposed to be translated in Cebuano.  Anyway, I need shoes for rainy days since I walk everyday to work. I have eyed several pairs of boots but it doesn't have my size, my usual dilemma. So, I tried looking for salomon trail shoes and other rubber shoes but I ended up buying a pair of converse sneakers.

Sunny w/ a Chance of Rain Storms

That is the Philippines stock market climate outlook for 2013, according to CitisecOnline. I'm still a newbie in this field, and so far, I like the numbers that I'm seeing in my account. It's been indeed sunny this year. For more guidance on investing, you can click here.

Got myself a wireless laser presenter. This would be really useful for my lectures. And I'm glad there's CD-R King, which sells cheaper version of this gadget.

I've been disturbed lately with the radio of the occupants next to my room. Apparently, they like the song Pusong Bato so much, and it's starting to become a last song syndrome. Whew!! I really need something to soundproof my room, and a toggle clamp would be handy. Time to decorate my room a bit too. And to my boardmates, prepare for some loud David Guetta tonight.
